"Intern" Movie Review
Summary
Starting a new job can be a difficult
challenge, especially if you're already retired. Looking to get back into the
game, 70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) seizes the opportunity
to become a senior intern at an online fashion site. Ben soon becomes popular
with his younger co-workers, including Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), the boss
and founder of the company. Whittaker's charm, wisdom and sense of humor help
him develop a special bond and growing friendship with Jules
Analysis of Creative Elements
The movie employs motivations regarding with the
dialogues and scenes. The gap of the age between the characters turns out to be
relatively unimportant which also means friendship knows no age or
hierarchy. Moreover, the combination of colors to set the mood of the film with
the cinematic effect as well. In addition, The movie does not
emotionally intense, with little humour and surprises added in the story to
make the mood of the film cheerful. Throughout the entire
movie Hathaway looks good. Her style is always perfectly
polished, classic, chic, and modern.
Analysis of The Topic
According to Hosea (2021), “Although many critics panned The Intern, I believe the film has much to say, especially in a society where the elderly are often mocked or ignored just because they seem old-fashioned or have a hard time with technology”. In the others words, this movie reflects the balance life of two generations. The wise old-fashioned character (on which can be called as the anti-tech generation) versus the independent modern (woman) who isn't scared of change. In fact, they help and support one another. Furthermore, The movie has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from The Washington Post, The L.A. Times, and Entertainment Weekly, all of which praise the feminist analysis of women in the workforce
Evaluation
In my view, the movie is not only about friendship that has no limitation. However, it is also about the sharing of experience from the older to young generations in order to grow mentally stronger. Ben teaches the life lesson (leadership) to give the motivation. As stated in his quote, “You're never wrong to do the right thing”. Ben was quoting Mark Twain in this quote. He believed doing the right thing was never the wrong thing and it symbolized his life. You may be tempted to take the shortcut
